AV Company Charleston SC news: The Ducks Unlimited Oyster Roast

One of the great joys of being a AV Company Charleston SC is that we get to sponsor some great events throughout the year. One of our favorites is the Ducks Unlimited Oyster Roast. Every year this event coincides with the week long Southeastern Wildlife Exposition held at various locations around downtown Charleston, South Carolina. Always held on Valentine’s weekend, SEWE (“seewee” as it is lovingly called in Charleston, not to be confused with SeeWee which is an actual place in South Carolina just up the road in Awendaw) brings visitors from around the nation.

SEWE’s focus is on sporting concerns: Hunting, fishing, falconry and the like. Ducks Unlimited is a a conservationist non-profit organization which seeks to maintain duck populations and their habitats among other causes. Ducks Unlimited hosts many events throughout the year around the nation but we like to think their visit to Charleston is the best part of their year. It’s certainly one of our favorite events for which we provide AV, lighting, and staging for the Oyster Roast and Auction. this event is held at the Charleston Bus Shed. And while it may not sound gala-fancy, there is a seeming cast of thousands on hand to turn a bus shed into a great party each year. And every year all of our combined teams get it done and create a fabulous evening for fundraising.

If you have not yet had the chance to attend the Ducks Unlimited Oyster Roast, now is the time to get it on your 2016 calendar. Dress in layers, if it is anything like this year, it can be a cold one.

It is that time of year again and we have once again been honored to have our Charleston gala lighting center front in our presenting sponsorship for the 2015 Chase After a Cure Gala. One of our most exciting events of each year, the Chase After a Cure gala is an opportunity for our various talents and teams at AV Connections to truly show off.

This year the theme of the gala was An Evening in Paris. Beginning months before, we created custom Gobo lighting effects for the interior and exterior of the Memminger Auditorium in downtown Charleston, SC. Each year the Chase gala welcomes four hundred guests and it is the charitiy’s primary fundraising effort of the year. Consequently, we truly need to create a stunning and memorable atmosphere; without fail it has to be a party to remember. We planned for nearly one thousand yards of custom draping for the floor to ceiling effect you see here. Then added uplighting in a palate of carefully selected color tones, some twenty in all. We moved on to create the custom log effects and specialty stage lighting for the evening’s entertainment. After weeks of preparation and custom products being shipped in, it was time.

This year we loaded into the Memminger the day before which was a great change for us. In previous years when the locations were only available day-of, we began the event set up at 4:30 am. In those instances, we are on site from 4:30 am until 2 am the next day. It is just what has to be done and to accomplish the task, we pull in additional crews from our North Carolina AV Connections office.

Joined by a complement of AV Connections lighting and AV techs, as well as our senior management, we created another incredible gala for Chase After A Cure, a charity close to our hearts for personal reasons. We are moved and humbled by their mission and always glad to be a presenting sponsor of this event.

Job Description:

Audio Visual Technician – Part-time/Full-time/Contract
Location: Winston-Salem, NC Corporate Offices of AV Connections, Inc.
Basic delivery, set-up, operation and tear-down of large and small scale audiovisual systems for live events while ensuring the best in client satisfaction. Responsible for accurate set-up and proper operation of basic electronic equipment. Provide excellent service and strive to exceed expectations and needs of customers. Maintain a positive relationship with all clients through excellent communication. Understand the technical aspects of the job and demonstrate basic operational skills to troubleshoot and problem solve. Understand company processes, follow procedures and complete systems entry and paperwork accurately. Interact with other staff and outside vendors for equipment. Increase revenue by utilizing up-selling techniques. Work with clients to finalize invoices.

Required Skills:
• High School diploma required
• Live event experience and previous customer service experience helpful
• Technical aptitude and basic understanding of how to use audiovisual equipment
• Excellent customer service skills
• Must be responsible, self-motivated, self-starter, personable and well-organized
• Must be able to accommodate a rotating work schedule to include nights and weekends
• Portrays a polished professional image to meet company dress code requirements
• Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds on a regular basis
